Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act of 1938

Transition to a New Era of Consumer Protection

I'm cross-posting here from my Cosmetic Chemistry Blog on Medium to share about my series of posts on the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act of 1938.

The series is based on an eponymous article by Rayburn D. Tousley, which he wrote in 1941 after the new law had gone into effect. It was published in The Journal of Marketing, reflecting that a scientific subject matter is also closely tied to the marketing of consumer products..

The FD&C Act marked a transition towards enhanced consumer safety and product transparency. It tackled both existing gaps in food, drug, and cosmetic safety, while also addressing emerging concerns of the 20th century.

Check out Tousley's research and the story behind my Medium blog here
