A Paradigm Shift in the Chemical Industry
I'm cross-posting here from my Cosmetic Chemistry Blog on Medium to share about the history of "green chemistry".
The American Chemical Society has published a history of how the field of "green chemistry" has evolved since the environmental movement began in the 1960s. It's an inspiring story that shows the collective efforts of scientists and advocates across multiple generations.
Green Chemistry is a term first coined in the early 1990s by Paul Anastas and John Warner. It advocates for the minimization or elimination of toxic substances in chemical processes and has been instrumental in redefining industrial operations. The core principles of Green Chemistry focus on preventing waste, enhancing energy efficiency, and using safer, sustainable materials.
